Yes. reed is in. Although he’s not a 1st ballot Hall of Famer at this point, he’ll need 2 to 3 more years of steady production for that. He’s already punched his ticket for Canton enshrinement. You can’t name me a more dominant safety in the last 10 years. Harrison, Polamalu, Dawkins- all great and probably all hall of famers themselves ( although i’ll reserve judgment on polamalu, who doesn’t have enough numbers at this point, but does have 2 rings, and he definitely will continue to play at his high level). Reed was the premier safety in the NFl of the 2000′s. Anytime in any sport you dominate a decade, you enter that sports hall of fame.

Reed has been a game changing DB for years, and has altered the position. Since the 90′s football has seen increase in the importance of the safety position due to players like Ed Reed.

Reed has my vote, however I agree a couple more seasons of comparable stats are needed to lock himself into Canton.

I think Ed Reed and Brian Dawkins now have the best chance of any safeties active since the 1990s of HoF election, and John Lynch may or may not be close by here in 3rd place.

It’s still too early to say on guys like Troy Polamalu and Bob Sanders so far, but given that the HoF has been very unkind to safeties in general, I have serious doubts at present on either player. In fact, it may be tough for any safety to get voted in if past patterns prevail.

yeah the HOF is a prestigious place. Ed Reed has the flashy numbers to get in. Do you think Troy Polamalu can make it? People think he can. I dont.

You could be right on Reed in the HOF, EVENTUALLY. Not a shoe in like some are saying. You and I know how tough it is to make HOF.

I always thought Sharper would make it and I’m even more convinced now.

I thought Bob Sanders had played many more games than 43. Too bad for the 2007 DPOY that injuries have killed his career. That doesn’t happen often to a player who’s that good.

All I know is that when he plays for the Colts he has every bit the impact as Ed Reed in his own way.

The HOF isn’t a country club you sign up for. It’s tough! 118 games is rarely enough games. I can name guys who were just as great for being ballhawks as Reed who fall short in the HOF consideration. Heck, in today’s game the QB’s throw the ball so much you can get 5 ints a year by accident. LOL!!

Reference.com has Reed ranked as the 445th best career since 1950. He might slighlty better but his career stats are only Hall of Very Good right now. I’d put his career impact just above the Bob Sanders category.

If he put in another three or four solid years I’d like his chances for having earned the HOF. Ask Lester Hayes or Terrell Davis about the scrutiny of HOF voters. And for Davis, he played a position that should excuse short careers more easily if the RB was great like him..
