The futility continues. Both of us went 2-2 last week, which in Vegas means we lost. Tony’s at least still in the ballgame for the season with his 10-10 mark. If there were money on my picks, I’d be laying in an alley with my legs broken. I’m at 6-14.

Luckily there is nothing on the line but pride. We’ve never had much of that around here anyway.

Atlanta (-9) vs. Oakland – Possibly the best offense in the NFL, coming off two weeks that have seen some offensive struggle, playing at home against a west coast team that has been struggling at all aspects of the game. This could get ugly. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game be picked one way by 99% of people on Yahoo. Of course, in today’s NFL, that probably means an upset…

Houston (-3.5) vs. Green Bay – The Packers offense has been struggling, against a Houston defense that hasn’t, even without Brian Cushing. And the Houston offense, which has remained solid, against the Green Bay defense that has frankly been not any better than last year’s weakness.  If this was in Lambeau, I’d probably stay away from it altogether, but I think the Pack are hopefully finally going to walk out of a game realizing that they just got beat, they didn’t beat themselves, and it wasn’t the refs targeting them.

Buffalo at Arizona – Over 43: I originally had the under, but I hate betting the under. And I like betting things that shouldn’t happen. And this game shouldn’t hit the over, given the putridness of Arizona’s offense and Buffalo’s…team. But, seems how I took the upset, a 24-21 Bills win shouldn’t be too hard to reach, right?

Upset of the week: Buffalo (+180) at Arizona – Like I said, I took the upset here. Not really sure why, just a hunch that the Bills are finally going to put something together—maybe Mario Williams finally shows up, maybe they get a special teams TD, maybe Ryan Fitzpatrick’s beard finally has a good game, or Fred Jackson finally stops killing my fantasy teams. Or maybe it’s all wishful thinking. But this one has a little more upside than my other upset of the week (Indianapolis at +160), especially if the heathen Rex Ryan finally gets God on his side by making the move to Tebow.

Pittsburgh (-6) at Tennessee – The Steelers are likely down a couple star defenders but that shouldn’t hurt too much against the Titans, whose offense is 27th at 17.6 points per game and whose “star” running back has 210 yards in five games and a 2.9 yards per carry average. Rashard Mendenhall came back last week from a knee injury suffered late last year and he looked solid. And look for Heath Miller to have a big night. Tennessee has given up 32 touchdowns (actually just seven) to tight ends in five games. Steelers win easily.

Pittsburgh at Tennessee – Under 43.5: Tennessee scored 44 points against Detroit in week three. The rest of the season the Titans have scored 13, 10, 14 and 7. That’s bad. The Steelers have a bit more offensive potential, but with a beaten up defense, I expect Pittsburgh to go with a ball control attack to shorten the game in hopes of keeping the defense off the field. I think it will be a comfortable game for the Steelers, as the Titans haven’t shown much pluck lately, but it won’t be enough to puncture the over/under.

Atlanta (-9) vs Oakland – West coast teams often struggle when heading east. And Oakland is terrible. Atlanta is undefeated and 4-1 against the spread. The Raiders are 1-3 both straight up and against the spread. This feels like a game where those fantasy owners with Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Roddy White, Michael Turner, Tony Gonzalez, Jason Snelling, Ovie Mughelli, Jacquizz Rodgers, Harry Douglas, Alfred Jenkins, Gerald Riggs, William Andrews, Steve Bartkowski and others will be able to pad their stats.

Upset of the week: Denver (+105) at San Diego – I admit, this is a bit weak, but there aren’t a lot of upsets this week, yet again, in my opinion. San Diego has given up 260 yards per game through the air and 11 touchdown passes. I think Peyton Manning carves up the Chargers as the Broncos get ready to start making a run toward the AFC West title.
