What do you expect from Keenan Allen moving forward this season? Was he overrated after an impressive rookie season?
Allen’s a tough one. I see him as a low-end WR2 the rest of the season at best. He wound up being very touchdown dependent at the end of last season, which buoyed his value. He hasn’t scored yet this year, obviously, and I think he’ll have trouble being a regular end zone visitor with more healthy bodies around him in the passing game this year. He’s got 6+ targets in four of five games this year, so they’re trying to get him involved. It just hasn’t quite happened yet.
What’s your process in evaluating kickers? Is the matchup key or do you want your kicker on a high powered offense. I’m in a Standard 14 team league w/ G. Gano/Carolina, and there aren’t alot of FA options, but I do have Billy Cundiff (who you’ve rated #1 this week), Mason Crosby, and Matt Prater available. I’d like to find a good kicker and stay with him and Gano and Cundiff are done with their bye weeks. Cundiff has some good matchups for the next few weeks. Crosby and Prater will both be on bye in week 9. Week 10 also has 6 teams on bye so I foresee alot of scrambling going on for replacement kickers in weeks 9 and 10. I hate to carry 2 kickers. Would you just go with Cundiff, stay with Gano or add either Crosby or Prater just hope for the best come week 9? Thanks.
Hey Dick, thanks for your question. My philosophy on kickers is to try to just carry one on a better scoring offense. Not going to be ranked in the top five every week based on matchups, but long term its simply the better option because you just never know when a team is or isn’t going to stall out in field goal range four times and lead to a huge kicker game. Week to week, my rankings are basically looking at average points per game by the kicker, average points per game allowed by kicker, then rank with a bit of gut factor mixed in that elevates the kickers on the better scoring teams and guys with higher floors (least amount of fluctuation week-to-week in the mid-range scoring area).
