He’s unbeatable. Anthony Maggio’s fantasy football advice has undoubtedly won matchups for many all season long – and if you’ve been following his Survivor Pool approach, you’re also still in the money.

He ran his record to 7-0 in this double elimination competition from which all of his opponents have already been knocked out. So we’re spotlighting his picks and then the rest of us will weigh in with some thoughts for a consolation round pool as well.

Maggio: Dallas over Washington
Teams used: NY Jets, Green Bay, Atlanta, San Diego, New Orleans, Denver, New England

The pickins are already getting slim for me and its only Week 8–the Cowboys are the only team of my picks this week that I was comfortable gambling on for survivor pool purposes. I’m already worried about Weeks 9 and 10 when six teams are on bye, but I resisted the temptation to look ahead and try balance my picks now with what’s available later. As my cohorts in this game have shown, it’s hard enough to just lock down one winner every single week without making things complicated.

Consolation round (single elimination)

John: Record before eliminated: 4-2 (1-0 in consolation round)
Teams used: Arizona

Dallas over Washington: I doubt the Cowboys can keep up their current pace, but this isn’t the week the bubble bursts. I love them at home on Monday Night Football against a struggling Redskins squad that’s planning to start Colt McCoy at QB.

Tony: Record before eliminated: 0-2 (1-0 in consolation round)
Teams used: New England

Denver over San Diego: Wow, I finally got one right! Denver isn’t facing the weakest opponent this week, but they’re at home, and they’re rolling. Teams that are facing the usual patsies (Raiders, Bucs, Jags, Washington) aren’t anyone I want to tie my wagon to (Cleveland, Minnesota, Miami, Dallas—who I’m still not convinced of, and will have a Monday Night platform from which to choke at home on—not that I won’t pick them, but…). So take the safe play, and roll with the Broncos.

Or take the Chargers and the points, based on my performance this year.

Andy: Record before eliminated: 2-2 (0-1 in consolation round)
Teams used: Seattle

Eliminated … again.

Who I would take if I didn’t suck: Detroit over Atlanta: Denver is a fine choice. So is Dallas, though I have a gut feeling Washington is going to make that game closer than expected. Atlanta is terrible right now. And Detroit seems to have a solid thing going, even with Calvin Johnson hurting. I’d probably be wrong. But it’s a tough week – the Lions are as reasonable a pick as anyone.
