The last 17 weeks have flown by in a flash. It feels like just a couple weeks ago I was boarding a plane for Vegas, where my last fantasy football draft took place. But in actuality, in a week or so, I’ll be collecting the winnings – and a sweet trophy – that go along with that title.

Enough bragging – this season was actually fairly frustrating for me otherwise. Middle-of-the-road in game picks. Good start in our bets segment only to see it disintegrate big time in the season’s final third. A lackluster performance in our inaugural survivor pool. In truth, there was never a point during this season during which I felt like I truly got a grasp on what was going to happen from week to week.

Some of my colleagues fared better than me, however. And in the spirit of accountability, here’s a breakdown of how those competitions went, starting with bets.

Bets:

After week 10, I was 24-16, sitting with a tidy $7,285 hypothetical profit. The rest of the season I went weekly-bets9-19, blowing through everything I was ahead and a bunch of my own pretend cash. Tony was 23-17 with an $8,507 nest egg. His fall wasn’t quite as dramatic – 10-18. And he managed to climb from his low point, netting a profit at season’s end.

But this was a disappointing end to what had initially looked like a solid run through the first two-thirds of 2014.

Week 17 Season Week +/- Final bankroll Final Season
Tony 2-2 33-35 +$3,177 $12,350 +$2,350
Andy 1-3 33-35 -$2,700 $6,638 -$3,362

Picks:

Our picks throughout the season were generally pretty solid. Guest picker Dr. Phil got off to a sizzling start and finished with a record equal to that of the NFL Network’s Dave Dameshek, which would be good for a fifth place tie among the 133 “experts” monitored by Pickwatch.com.

John Vomhof Jr. was not far behind with a win total tied for 13th. I don’t know that I’d call myself or any weekly-picksof my colleagues “experts” but it’s nice to know that we can play in the same realm, at least some of the time. Here are the final standings:

Name Week 17 Final standing
Dr. Phil 11-5 177-78-1
John Vomhof Jr 13-3 174-81-1
Tony 12-4 171-84-1
Andy 12-4 165-90-1
Anthony Maggio 11-5 156-99-1

Survivor Pool:

Well, the only suspense here was whether Anthony was going to make it through the season without getting his second strike. It was a back-and-forth game, but the 49ers came through for him, ensuring that he was the only one of us to not miss two games all year in our double elimination tourney.

His 16-1 mark ensured that at least one of us didn’t look like a dunce. The rest of us … we’ve all been eliminated three or four times – if not more.
