I saw Peyton Manning doing another cheesy commercial the other day. This time he was inviting Eli over on Sunday to watch NFL Sunday Ticket. Eli was preparing to play a game.

Yes, Peyton is retired, but – the more things change, the more they stay the same. It seems we’ll still be able to count on him for some doofus TV ads. Those eye-rolling gems mean we’re just a couple days short of the kickoff of another NFL season.

And in keeping with the way the NFL does things, there are some good, tough games to pick in week one. We’re 80 percent back from last year, with Andy, Tony, John and Anthony returning to show our game-picking skills, or lack thereof. Here is our effort for week one.

Game of the Week: Carolina at Denver – It’s hard to go against the Patriots/Cardinals tilt on Sunday night, especially given the Tom Brady suspension storyline. But then again, that storyline puts the Super Bowl rematch over the top as the one to watch this week. Can the Broncos ride defense and the run game again? Can Trevor Siemian provide any kind of upgrade over Manning’s 2015 performance? Can the Panthers overcome the Super Bowl loser buzz kill that affects many second place finishers? We start to find out Sunday night.

Game of the Weak: Los Angeles at San Francisco – It’s a little hard to pick the worst game of the week in the first week of the season. But this one has very little going for it. San Francisco is coming off of a terrible season and probably isn’t going to do too much better this year. Los Angeles is celebrating, for now, its return to California, but this game is on the road. Jeff Fisher’s mediocre results as a head coach in the years since his Tennessee Titans team lost the Super Bowl make it a bit amazing that he still has the helm. A loss to the Niners in week one would put him squarely on the hot seat.
