When you get down to picking San Francisco and Chicago, you know it’s getting late in the season. There aren’t a lot of easy ones left. Our group went 3-2 last week, with the Bears and the Saints providing the disappointment.

Here’s week 13:

Tony: Detroit

Vomhof: Atlanta

Andy: Atlanta

Maggio: Atlanta

Rich: Atlanta

And here is why:

Tony: (Previous picks: Seattle, Carolina, Dallas, Cincinnati, New England, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Minnesota, Kansas City, Baltimore, Miami, NY Giants, San Francisco) The Lions aren’t my favorite team to win this week, but the rest of my top picks (Cincinnati vs. Cleveland, Minnesota vs. Jacksonville) are off my board, and no way am I touching the San Francisco/NY Jets game, which might replace the San Francisco/Chicago game from last week in the biggest stinker the league has put on in the last decade.

Vomhof: (Previous picks: Seattle, Carolina, Miami, Arizona, New England, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Dallas, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, NY Giants, Green Bay) Ugh. I’m once again unable to bet against Cleveland because I used Cincinnati the last time these teams met. I guess I’ll go with Atlanta over L.A. I’ve been waiting for the clock to strike midnight for the Falcons, but Kyle Shanahan has this offense humming and it’s a favorable matchup (even on the road).

Andy: (Previous picks: Seattle, Carolina, Miami, Carolina, New England, Pittsburgh, Denver, Kansas City, Dallas, Baltimore, Arizona, NY Giants, New Orleans) I’m in a couple confidence pools. I’m finding that it’s rare this late in the season when I can pick the same team as my top choice in those contests as I can in this Survivor pool. I’ve not been on the Atlanta bandwagon much this season, but the Arizona game a couple weeks ago convinced me the Falcons are close to being for real. This week they get a bottom five Los Angeles team that has to be just waiting for the season to end.

Maggio: (Previous picks: Arizona, Detroit, Carolina, Washington, Oakland, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Tennessee, Kansas City, Baltimore, New England, New Orleans, Green Bay) I don’t love choosing a road team, but Los Angeles is terrible and Atlanta isn’t. The Falcons shouldn’t have any problem disposing of the Rams here, even if LA’s defense can keep things relatively close at home. Also, don’t look now, but after getting three wrong in a row I haven’t missed since–only Vomhof has a better record at survivor picks than I do.

Rich: (Previous picks: Los Angeles, Seattle, Arizona, Dallas, New England, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Minnesota, Green Bay, Baltimore, Tennessee, Buffalo, Chicago) Sometimes you don’t need to look at statistics or records. Some games just need to pass the eye test. Atlanta has a lot going for it right now, with or without Julio Jones. The Los Angeles Rams have lost three games in a row and seven of their last eight. Atlanta is fighting for a playoff berth. Rams players are planning January vacations. Dan Quinn is a serious coach who is not happy about the way his team was beat by Kansas City last week. Jeff Fisher is kind of a clown who doesn’t know where he put his challenge flag. Atlanta goes to L.A. and beats the Rams.
