Well, here it is, folks. It’s Super Bowl week. Depending on how you look at it, this week is either the ultimate finale to the football season … or the beginning of a depressing several-month stretch during which there will be no football on television (though that actually started this weekend, unless you count the glorified touch football game that is the Pro Bowl).
Before we get to our Super Bowl predictions, here’s a quick recap of our picks for the season.
I won the regular season competition with my brother, hitting a fairly solid 172-84 mark, three games ahead of Tony.
Those results have flip-flopped in the playoffs. I have been terrible, missing both Championship Weekend games and dropping to 3-7. Tony hit both of those games, moving his mark to 7-3. This has been an ugly turn of events.
And I’m not sure I have a real good read on the Super Bowl either, but we’ll give it a go anyway.
Buoyed by predicting a Giants’ upset over Green Bay, Tony finished 3-1 in predicting the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, which gave him a 5-3 overall record in the postseason. I didn’t see the Giants’ win coming, so I split. That puts me at a pathetic 3-5 in the playoffs.
So with that as context, here are our picks for Championship Sunday. Continue reading
Last week’s games did not go the way Tony and I saw them turning out. Tony split, hitting on New Orleans and Houston while missing on Denver and the New York Giants. I got only the Saints game right.
So of course you are waiting on the edge of your seats to see who we’re going to pick this week, right?
Suckers.
Here goes: Continue reading
Well, for the first time in several years we actually made it through a season making picks every week. And with a 12-4 record in week 17, I conquered my brother, who made some obviously grasping picks during the season’s final week in an effort to overtake my lead. His 10-6 record brought his season total to 169-87, three games behind my 172-84. For these efforts I win … bragging rights, I guess.
So, we’ve decided to take this show through the playoffs. The format will change a bit. We’re going to not only provide our pick for who will win the game but some meaningless thoughts about why, as well. So sit back and enjoy. Or something. Continue reading
As predicted, we split our four games we had different last week—Andy hit on Philadelphia and Oakland, while I hit on Detroit and San Francisco, so we both finished a disappointing 10-6 for the week.
That leaves us one game apart heading into the final week, with Andy at 160-80 and myself at 159-81. And, of course, we have four games separating us again this week, with Andy believing that the Bears, Lions, Chiefs and Ravens will win, while I think the Vikings will find a way to screw up their season even worse, Green Bay will still pull out a win, the NFL will find a way for Tebowmania to continue, and the Ravens will choke again down the stretch.
