Need a tight end fill-in during your starter’s bye week?
Stuck with a crapload of mediocre wide receivers for that third starting spot?
A friend and colleague at his blog, puntingbaxter.wordpress.com, has created a spreadsheet that should help you breakdown some of those position battles. The statistics break down how defenses have done against TEs, WR1s, WR2s, and other wide receivers, among other positions. While the spreadsheet doesn’t cover all scoring models, it should still provide at least some basic information people can use – and it’s information I’ve struggled to find almost anywhere on the net.
The first part of his post is analysis of the information you are reading. There is a link toward the bottom that will take you to the analysis. While he looks a little, umm, special with that straw sticking out of his mouth on the front page of the blog, Magsh, otherwise known as Anthony Maggio, is a freelance sports writer and former employee at Fanball.com, so he’s got the background with which to analyze this fantasy football data well.

So Jerry Jones unloaded four draft picks and sent them to Detroit in exchange for wide receiver Roy Williams. Will owners of Williams get an immediate kick for their fantasy football dreams?
Immediately, the impact is more likely to be an improvement for guys like Terrell Owens and Marion Barber who will have another weapon to take pressure off of them. Defenses will have to spread their coverages more evenly against Williams leaving those two and Jason Witten more space to roam. They can’t double-cover everybody.
There are a couple other issues that will prevent Williams from having a huge immediate impact himself. First, he has to learn the offense. Sure, they can draw up four or five plays for him to run or tell him to go deep and he might get lucky and catch a couple long ones, but he’ll need to know the entire playbook before he can maximize his contribution.

Injury news that hits ZoneBlitz closer to the wallet came down earlier today, when Jay Glazer reported that Saints WR Marques Colston will miss 4-6 weeks after surgery to repair a ligament in his thumb. Colston has been a mainstay on ZoneBlitz rosters this year–both auction formats, and one of our free leagues feature him on their roster (the free league also featured Tom Brady as their QB–that’ll be fun).
ZoneBlitz (and I guess the Saints) aren’t the only ones hurting, though–there were several other key injuries in week 1:

Sales of Wild Turkey undoubtedly increased to levels unmatched since Pat Summerall stopped imbibing Sunday afternoon in New England and across the country where fantasy football players who spent a top five draft pick or large percentages of their auction dollars on Tom Brady mourned the all-but-confirmed shredding of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
While Brady’s injury cleary presents a massive blow to the hopes of many owners be glad that it happened in week one rather than in week 10 or 12. You have three months to find a way to replace the league’s first or second best quarterback.
In all likelihood, to fully recoup his value, you’ll need to make a big trade somewhere along the line. But in the short-term there are several options available to you at quarterback. While none of them will leave you whole they can get you by until you can make that bigger move.
One option is taking a look at Matt Cassel. While he hasn’t been a starter since high school he does have a cadre of weapons unmatched by nearly any other team. Randy Moss, Ben Watson, Wes Welker, Jabar Gaffney and four running backs that contribute as skill position players give him a lot of options to utilize as he attempts to fill Brady’s shoes for the next 15 weeks and change.
Don’t forget, it was an injury to Drew Bledsoe that allowed Brady to earn his star status in the first place. Nobody is predicting that kind of success for the least-heralded of the recent USC quarterback alums. But he is a young, hungry quarterback in search of an opportunity to show what he can do.
It’s likely that if you had Brady you didn’t keep a backup quarterback. If you opt for Cassel I’d suggest adding someone else just in case he proves to be nothing more than a low-level backup.
Some guys that might still be sitting on your free agent wires include the following:

Two ZoneBlitz.com fantasy teams may have been thrown a severe curve ball today, as Tom Brady’s knee injury has apparently been confirmed as a torn ACL.
On the positive side, neither team that featured Brady were in paid leagues. And both are currently winning their games for the week.
On the down side, in one league we didn’t draft a backup QB, and in the other, Matt Schaub was auto-drafted for us (way too early), but was subsequently cut for one of the rookie RB we snagged.
Thankfully, with the free internet service at McCarran International Airport, we’ve already made a transaction to shore up for next week–we grabbed Trent Edwards from Buffalo, who we actually kind of liked anyway. But he’s no Tom Brady.
As for the Patriots…well, I think those fans in Boston can stop talking about going 16-0 again. And I doubt we’ll see any more 16.5 point spreads in Vegas.

LAS VEGAS – All of the fantasy league drafts and auctions I participate in each year culminate in the Power League auction. It’s the highest stakes league I play in and it’s the most competitive with nine players that are all skilled in football and trash talk.
This year the Power League gathered in Las Vegas for the auction at 10 p.m. Las Vegas time in an abandoned hallway/lobby area in the Flamingo hotel.
The participants had been in Vegas for varying amounts of time and many were clearly on the tired side as the night got underway. But everyone was also clearly stoked for our annual football get together and my brother did yeoman’s work in his debut as a fantasy auctioneer.

This is what Robert Kraft said about the negative reaction to the Dynasty I loved the first three episodes I…
If I were to keep my want lists to the smallest most reasonable numbers (not everyone but the smaller highest…
never said there were no worthy contributors, just that the list is small and less than the number of deserving…
Paul I guess I can agree with that but there’s some worthy contributors in that pool like Robert Kraft Clint…
frankly (as I have expressed in past) my view on contributors-shared by many historians and voters is that the pool…
