Championship weekend predictions
And the fun continues.
I was less successful in my picks last weekend than I was during the Wild Card round. I hit two of four straight up and one of four against the spread. Hopefully this week goes a bit better.

Some people call NFL Divisional Playoff Weekend the best of the football season. This season I think they are absolutely right on.
I love this weekend’s games. I’ve been studying them as time allowed all week and I’ve spent the last hour scouring the Internet and two newspapers looking for information. And I can’t get a good grasp on any of the four matchups.
I’m coming off of a pretty good week though. I hit three of four both straight up and against the spread last week. Hopefully that trend continues. Here are my thoughts:

We dropped the prediction segment on the ZB Web site early in the season this year due to lack of cohesiveness, direction and readership. We’ll probably bring something pick-related, both straight up and against the spread, for next season. It’ll definitely be more organized than it was before.
That said, it’s the playoffs and with the beginning of the second season I thought I’d go back to making some foolish game picks.
So, for Wild Card weekend, here are my thoughts.

Hmm. Getting going a little late this afternoon, but so it goes. Here are my picks – both straight up and against the spread (Last week’s record 2-2):
Baltimore at Tennessee: Baltimore
I like the way the Ravens were playing at the end of the season. The defense should largely bottle up the Titans’ potent run game. It’ll be a low scoring game decided in the fourth quarter.
Arizona at Carolina: Carolina
Arizona mysteriously discovered a run game last week and it helped surprise and beat Atlanta. That won’t happen this week. The Panthers will be the dominant ground team and they’ll pull away in the second half to win handily.
Philadelphia at New York Giants: Giants
I think this is the most compelling game of the weekend. Both teams are playing well. In another low-scoring battle, I expect home field will win out in the end. The Giants’ three-headed run attack will wear down the Eagles just enough to pull it out.
San Diego at Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh
San Diego has been on a roll of late, but they’re heading into the cold weather minus a full-strength LaDainian Tomlinson. Not that Sproles isn’t a solid replacement, but the Steelers defense is too good for the Chargers to win at less than full strength.
Actually getting picks posted before the first game of the week for once–what a concept.
Lots of diffrences between Andy and I this week–could go a long way towards determining who wins for the season…

We’re a couple weeks behind on picks–as usual, they’ve been made each week, just not posted. In part because I misplaced my AtS picks from Thanksgiving morning–but they have been found, and standings have been updated.
Head to Head Rank’em Picks – I have taken a 2 game lead for the season. It was up to 4 games after a 7-1 performance in Week 12–only Andy’s 3-5 kept us from cashing in that week. I followed it up with a 4-4 week (vs. Andy’s 6-2), and we both finished 6-2 last week. Knock on wood (or whatever this desk is made out of), we’re sitting quite nicely for the season overall right now too. Current Standings: Andy 68-35, Tony 70-33.
Straight Up – I’ve closed the gap significantly, helped most by a 13-3 performance last week. It’s just too bad that 2 of my 3 incorrect picks were games I picked in the Rank’em game. Current Standings: Andy 123-70-1, Tony 121-72-1.
Against the Spread – After pulling to a tie, I took a 1-game lead after Week 12–and promptly choked in Week 13 with a 6-10 mark. Fortunately, Andy hasn’t pulled away. Current Standings: Andy 93-83-2, Tony 91-85-2.
Week 15 picks will hopefully be up before game time tomorrow (for once). Week 13 and 14 are after the jump…
Robert no what makes you think that
heres a question for the group should a contributor be retired like players and coaches
Paul I hope so and that depends if the process changes again
if Hall stays with one coach and one contributor finalists-you can be certain Bill and Kraft will again be those…
