Edward P. Roski Jr. plans to build an $800 million stadium to bring an NFL team to Los Angeles.

Roski, a developer, plans to construct a 75,000 seat stadium with 175 suites. He plans to either purchase a team or become a minority partner, according to Bloomberg.

“A Los Angeles NFL team would become a part of the fabric of the community and a source of pride, just like the Lakers are,” Roski said at a new conference at Staples Center.

Cough, cough.

Right. Just like the Rams and the Raiders did.

Roski is a part owner of the Lakers’ NBA team and the Kings’ NHL team. His dream of a stadium would be surrounded by an office, shopping and entertainment complex east of Los Angeles at the junction of two freeways that also are close to a Metrolink public transportation station.

That’s all fine and good. But LA has failed a couple times already. The glitz and glamour city is perfect for the NBA. The NFL is cruising along just fine sans Los Angeles.

They also lost out to Houston for an expansion team. I’m sure Roski is a well-meaning guy. But the league is as good as it gets right now – billions in revenues. Oodles of profits. A perfect number of teams. Don’t do something crazy like moving or adding another team to LA that could screw it up.
