In depth 2013: Cincinnati Bengals

Two seasons in a row the Cincinnati Bengals have made the AFC playoffs as a wild card team only to be on the wrong end of a first-round loss to the Houston Texans.

With Baltimore and Pittsburgh potentially entering some level of rebuilding, the door may be open for the Bengals to take the next step, chasing the AFC North championship and a possible first-round bye. But Cincinnati isn’t a flawless team either. Andy Dalton has to continue improving and the Bengals’ brass must give him some more weapons with which he can work.

Jason Garrison, editor with CincyJungle.com, tells us where he thinks the Bengals are and what he figures they need to do in order to dethrone Baltimore and make a deeper run in the postseason.

NFL Best Bets: Week 10 – 2012

Sure, when I go to Vegas, everything is normal, but the week after I leave all hell breaks loose.

“Books get destroyed,” screams the headline of a VegasInsider.com story that estimates gamblers took the city’s establishments for $7 million to $9 million over the weekend due to the success players had in betting favorites on parlay cards.

Nobody is going to feel sorry for Las Vegas sports books, however. Whether they lost $9 million or not, over time they’ll do fine. And they still did better than Tony and I did on our bets, which have been a struggle all season long.

I got a 2-2 for the week that probably would have netted a small profit with my success in nailing the upset of the week, Tampa over Oakland. It wasn’t a big spread, but the Raiders never should have been favored in that game, in my humble opinion.

Tony was 1-3, hitting only the Indianapolis win over Miami. So, for the season, Tony is a dismal 14-22 while I am a slightly even more pathetic 13-23.

So here’s your next chance to win money by doing the opposite of what we suggest… (more…)

NFL Best Bets: Week 3 – 2012

Good grief, what was I thinking last week. Hindsight is 20/20, but wow. Betting an over on a 51? That’s a huge number for an NFL game. Betting on Kansas City on the road coming off an awful week one performance? Not the strategy a fortune won at gambling is made of.

I paid the price with an 0-4 week, bringing my season total to 1-7. Tony’s misses were a little less stupid than mine, but he still was only 1-3, so his season total is 4-4.

We’ll still give it another go this week – but you might have better chances of winning big if you do the opposite of what we suggest.

Here goes: (more…)
