I’ve enjoyed the playoffs more this season than I have in a long time. weekly-betsThat, however, has not improved my point spread gaming.

I was correct in picking Seattle and Denver to win last week, but I picked both losing teams to beat the spread. I was wrong in both cases. The poor performance dropped my playoff record to just 3-7 against the spread and 5-5 in over/under picks.

This week will probably present more of the same. While the majority of people who voted in our poll got the Super Bowl match-up they desired, it sets up a fantastic game that is difficult to project.

But here goes:

Sunday, February 2

Denver vs Seattle
5:30 p.m. central, Fox
Line: Denver -2.5
Over/Under: 47.5

Much of what I have to say about this game I got out of my system in our picks segment earlier this week. I love this match-up. Two number one seeds that definitely separated themselves from conference competitors throughout much of the season facing off, one with the top offense and the other with the top defense. It’s a dream game.

I picked Seattle to win the Super Bowl heading into the season, but flipped to the Denver side for this game. I have slowly felt stronger in that pick throughout the week, particularly with speculation slipping that Peyton Manning may call it a career following this game.

It’s a fascinating game. Can Percy Harvin give the Seahawks the extra weapon they need? Can the Denver defense keep playing better, particularly against the run, against Seattle and Marshawn Lynch? Can Russell Wilson come through on the big stage in just his second year in the league?

In the end, particularly if it is Manning’s final game, I’m going with Peyton and the Broncos. Wilson is very good and I think we’ll be watching him turn more and more into a Drew Brees-like QB over the next few years, but the vet will go out with a second Super Bowl ring.

Picks: Denver -2.5, Over 47.5
