A lot of larger survivor pools didn’t last as long as ours did this season. Some early season upsets have wreaked havoc on such contests. And the run of unpredictability finally ended ours. Congratulations to Rich, who stood tall amid the chaos. His picks have barely been threatened so far this season. He wins bragging rights. So if there is one of us to listen to, it’s him.

The rest of us continue through the second-chance pool. We’ll continue bringing you our choices throughout the season – even though they don’t really matter much.

And here’s why:

Rich – Contributing writer and publisher and editor for SouthernMinn SCENE magazine

This is a no-brainer. Baltimore travels three-quarters of the way across the country with an offense that is shaky at best and a defense that looks lost, confused and defeated. Arizona, meanwhile, will be looking to put their second loss of the season behind them and show the national television viewing audience that they are for real. Which they are, by the way.

Congrats to Rich on the survivor pool victory. It was probably a good time to get the win, because this week’s matchups suck. Royally. The most obvious pick is probably New England, who’s probably been used in about 98.9 percent of survivor pools at this point—and even they have a tougher than I would have expected matchup with the Jets. Every other game in my eyes is no better than a 60/40 shot one way or the other, outside of this Atlanta game—and even that I’d only put at about 70/30, even with Mariota out for the Titans.

Maggio – Fantasy editor

The Chargers gave Green Bay a run for its money at Lambeau. I like them at home against far inferior competition.

Vomhof – Senior contributing writer

The Cards are coming off a disappointing loss to Landry Jones and Steelers, but they should be able to get things back on track Monday night against the Ravens. Carson Palmer has had the offense humming this year, and I don’t think the Baltimore secondary is capable of stopping them.

Andy – Co-founder, editorial director

This is a weirdly uninspiring collection of matchups this week. There are a few games I feel somewhat confident about, but I’ve used most of those teams already. I’m not sold on Atlanta as a whole, but I do expect the Falcons to rebound from their first loss.
